
Pay Rates
*AA is actively in negotiations which means their pay scale does not increase past the 2019 rates, as of now.
Minimum Guarantee
Line Holder: 71 hours
Reserve: 75 hours

Foreign Language Speaker Premium Pay
Paid $2.00 per hour extra for each flight in which the flight attendant uses his or her language skills (Deadhead included)
International Pay
Paid $3.00 per hour extra on each non-international premium destinations.
Paid $3.75 per hour extra on each international sequence.

Deadhead Pay
All deadheads are paid at 100% for block or actual flight time, whichever is higher. All premium pay additives apply to deadheads.

Holiday/Incentive Pay
Flight attendants will be paid 200% for any flying completed on the following days: Thanksgiving Eve, Thanksgiving Day, Sunday following Thanksgiving, Monday following Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, The day after Christmas, New Years Eve, New Years Day
The company may elect to designate specific incentive days. These days will be designated as either 150% pay, or 200% pay for any flying performed on said day.

Per Diem (as of 1/1/19)
Domestic - $2.20 per hour away from base
International - $2.50 per hour away from base
Vacation Pay and Accrual
Vacation Pay and Credit
Vacation blocks of 7 days or more will be paid at 4 hours per day
Vacation blocks of less than 7 days will be paid at 3.5 hours per day

Vacation Bidding
Vacation must be bid in blocks of 4 days or more, with one exception
The flight attendant may bid one block of 1,2 or 3 days once per calender year.

Sick Pay and Accrual
Sick Accrual
Flight attendants will accrue 4.5 hours of sick time for each month of active service. The bank will max out once reaching 1,500 hours

Sick Pay and Usage
Flight attendants sick hours will cover their missed flying or reserve at 100%, assuming they have enough sick time to cover the absence
​
A line holder's sick bank will be charged the value of the trip/portion of trip he or she missed
​
A reserve flight attendant's sick bank will be charged 4:10 (30 day bid period) or 3:56 (31 day bid period) for each reserve day missed, or the value of an assigned trip, whichever is greater.
Hours of Service
Minimum Days Off
Line holders are required to have 11 days off free from duty in base. The flight attendant may choose to go below 11 days off via PBS or trip trading, etc.
Reserves must have a minimum of 12 days free from duty in base. 8 of these days shall be designated as golden days. 4 of these days shall be designated as flex days. A flight attendant shall not be required to work on a golden day. A flight attendant may be required to work into a flex day off.

Reserve Rotation
Flight attendants will be required to sit reserve based on the following provisions:
For the first 12 months following training, a flight attendant will be on straight reserve
If needed as reserve following the 12 month full reserve duty, a flight attendant will sit reserve 1 month on, 1 month off for a period of 3 years.
If needed as reserve after 4 years on property, a flight attendant will sit reserve 1 month on, 3 months off.
Retirement/401k
401k Contributions
A new hire flight attendant will automatically be enrolled in the companies retirement program at a before-tax rate of 3% of compensation

New hire flight attendants shall receive company contributions equal to 3% of eligible compensation
Employer will match 100% up to 2.5% of compensation
The company will not give more than 5.5% of total compensation in any period
Domiciles and Fleet
Fleets
American currently operates the B737 , B777, B787, and A320 family (A319, A320, A321).
All of the long haul international flying is conducted by the B777 and B787. If this type of flying is what you desire, you would want to be based in one of the following bases labeled *wide body*. Keep in mind, seniority will dictate which type of flying you will be able to hold.
Domiciles
American utilizes co-domiciles and satellite domiciles with many of their bases. While flying may originate in certain cities other than the domicile on record, seniority may make it difficult to get these trips.

Parking
American will pay for a parking pass at the flight attendants domicile. For domiciles that cover multiple airports, they will be given a pass for each airport.
Instead, for those who commute, American will pay for a parking pass at any one of the domiciles listed above as well as any AA wholly owned subsidiaries domicile.
If the flight attendant chooses to utilize parking at any other station, they will be reimbursed monthly, up to the cost of a parking pass in their domicile.
Flight Benefits
Non-Revenue Travel
Flight attendants are given flight benefits on all American and American Eagle flights. Standby travel is normally free, however, some international destinations will charge taxes and fees as well as imputed income.
They may choose one Spouse, domestic partner, or registered companion to share the same benefits with.
Flight attendants are given buddy passes to give to family and friends which will cost the individual depending on the distance and destination.
Flight attendants will receive 20% off of purchased American Airlines flights

Jump-seating
Flight attendants have the privilege of jump-seating on American and American Eagle flights. They may also jump-seat on other air carriers that have reciprocal agreements with American.
Union Information
Union
Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA)
Flight attendants are required to maintain membership with APFA as a condition of employment. Membership is required within 60 days of employment, and all dues/initiation fees must be paid.

Contract
The current contract is effective December 13th, 2014 to December 12th, 2019. The contract is almost 10 years old, and has been amendable for 4 years. APFA is still in negotiations with American. As of September of 2023, APFA flight attendants have voted 99% in favor to strike.

Probation
A flight attendant shall be on probation for the first 6 months of service with the company
​
